The Orange Head Out West For Lance Up Invite

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After opening ACC play last weekend against Clemson, Syracuse travels to Riverside, California to compete in the Lance Up Invite.

The Orange start tournament play with a Friday doubleheader, taking on Harvard at 3 p.m. and UC San Diego at 5:30 p.m. Day two starts with a rematch against the Crimson at 3:30 p.m. and finishes with a game against tournament host California Baptist University at 8:30 p.m. 'Cuse takes on UC San Diego at 1 p.m. for the Lance Up Invite finale. All times listed are in eastern standard time.

ORANGE UPDATE:

After going 3-2 in the Low Country Classic, the Orange were swept by No. 4 Clemson in their three-game series.
Sophomore Angie Ramos leads the Orange with a .343 batting average.
Ryan Starr and Angel Jasso have not been caught on the base paths yet this season, stealing five and three bases respectively.

MADISON "MAYDAY" KNIGHT:

Freshman Madison Knight thrived in the circle against a prolific Clemson offense.
In her first career complete game, Knight held the Tigers to one run and four hits in the 1-0 loss. The one run is the second lowest run total for Clemson this season.
In her 8.1 innings against Clemson, Knight allowed three walks, four hits, one run while striking out four batters.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:

Tournament host California Baptist is 12-9 on the season, brining a six-game win streak. The Lancers have a 2.53 team earned-run average, as sophomore infielder Priscilla Estrada leads the team in hits (24) and runs (11).
Harvard holds a 6-4 record, going 3-2 at the Red and Black Softball Tournament. The Crimson lead the Ivy League in batting average (.290) and earned run average (3.05).
UC San Diego is 7-13, losing eight-straight heading into the weekend. The Tritons have a .260 team batting average, which ranks fifth in the Big West. Kaia Simpson leads in earned run average (1.11) and has pitched 25.1 innings.

SERIES HISTORY:

Harvard and Syracuse have met twice, as Syracuse swept a two-game set in the first meeting. The two programs first met in 2013, participating in the Duel at the Dome, as the Orange outscored the Crimson 11-6 over the two-game set.
Syracuse will play both UC San Diego and California Baptist for the first time in program history.

UP NEXT:

Syracuse will play one more game in California, taking on Women's College World Series runner-up UCLA on Tuesday, Mar. 14 at 10 p.m. The Orange resume ACC play at Florida State on Mar. 17 – Mar. 19.
