SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After a career outing on Saturday, Syracuse University men's lacrosse freshman Joey Spallina has earned several weekly honors.
Spallina has been selected as the ACC Men's Lacrosse Co-Offensive Player of the Week, named to the USILA Division I Team of the Week and was tapped as The Lacrosse Network's Player of the Week.
Spallina led the Orange (7-5) to a ranked win on the road over No. 14 Princeton, scoring nine points in the 16-13 win over the Tigers. The Mount Sinai, New York native racked four goals with another five assists. His nine points are tied for the fourth-most in a single game by a Syracuse freshman and his five helpers are tied for the third most by a 'Cuse rookie.
This marks the second time Spallina has won a weekly honor from the ACC, joining his selection for the same honor in mid-February. The attackman was also named Player of the Week by The Lacrosse Network for a second time this season.
Joining Spallina in the weekly awards from the league office was Notre Dame's Pat Kavanagh, who was also a Co-Offensive Player of the Week. Notre Dame's Chris Fake was selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Spallina and the 18th-ranked Orange head to Olney, Maryland this Saturday for a neutral-site ACC game against No. 12 North Carolina. Game time at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School is set for 4 p.m. on ESPNU. Anish Shroff '04 and Quint Kessenich will have the call on Saturday. More information about the game can be found on the event's homepage.
