Orange Up Five Spots in Both Polls
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After collecting a ranked win away from home for a second straight week, the Syracuse University men's lacrosse team jumped in both major polls this week.
'Cuse (8-5, 1-3 ACC) picked up its first league win of the season, knocking off No. 12 UNC 15-14 on Saturday in Maryland. The Orange moved up to 13th in the USILA Coaches' Poll, collecting 129 points, up five spots from last week. Syracuse also moved up five spots in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll to the number 12 slot with 151 points.
The top three remained the same in the USILA Coaches' Poll on Monday, filled by No. 1 Notre Dame with 436 points and 19 first-place votes, No. 2 Duke with 421 points and the three outstanding top selections, and No. 3 Virginia with 387 points.
In the Media Poll, Notre Dame held the top spot for a second-straight week with 380 points and all 19 first-place votes. Duke moved up one slot into second with 360 points while Maryland moved up one spot to third with 328 points. This week's 'Cuse foe, Virginia, slipped back to fourth with 317 points.
For a third-straight week, Syracuse plays away from home with a trip to Charlottesville on Saturday. Opening faceoff is slotted for 2 p.m. on ESPNU as the No. 13/No. 12 Orange battle No. 3/No. 4 Virginia for the only time this regular season.
