Guard Judah Mintz, one of the top first-year performers in college basketball last season, has announced his intention to return to Syracuse for his sophomore campaign. Mintz, who participated in the 2023 NBA Draft process while maintaining his collegiate eligibility, removed his name from draft consideration on May 31.
Mintz was named to the 2022-23 ACC All-Freshman Team and earned All-ACC Honorable Mention recognition after starting all 32 games for the Orange. He was named to the 2023 Kyle Macy Freshman All-American Team.
He averaged 16.3 points, 4.6 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, last season. Mintz scored in double digits a squad-best 28 times, which included nine contests in which he topped 20 points.
He ranked third among Division I freshmen in scoring average (16.3), trailing only Brandon Miller from Alabama (18.8) and Nate Calmese of Lamar (17.7). Mintz led Division I freshmen in assists average (4.625) and was seventh in steals average (1.84). He topped the ACC in steals average.
Mintz combined with Joseph Girard to produce 32.7 points per game, which ranked third among starting backcourts in the ACC.
