SYRACUSE, N.Y. – With training camp less than three weeks away, Syracuse University head field hockey coach Lynn Farquhar has announced Leah Morrison for the incoming season.
"Leah is a savvy attacker who glides through defenders with the ball," said Farquhar, who is poised for her first season leading the Orange. "Leah brings a level of creativity and competitive heart to the class. Orange is in Leah's blood! Her sister, Clara, played for Syracuse as well!"
Morrison comes to Syracuse from St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C. where she helped lead the Cadets to Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) titles in 2020, 2021, and 2022, in addition to a finalist appearance in 2019.
A prolific scorer, Morrison racked up 36 goals and 12 assists as a senior, leading the Cadets and the WCAC in scoring, setting the conference record for single-season goals. Over her scholastic career, Morrison accounted for over 70 goals, leading her team and the league in all four seasons. Additionally, Morrison was a captain in her senior season.
Over her high school career for head coach Corey Kelly, Morrison was a four-time First Team All-WCAC selection and was the WCAC Player of the Year in both 2021 and 2022. She earned First Team All-Met honors in 2021 and as the Washington Post All-Met Player of the Year in 2022.
On the club circuit, Morrison played for the Washington Wolves under the guidance of Syracuse field hockey alumna Gloria Nantulya.
Morrison was drawn to Syracuse when her sister, Clara, committed while Leah was in eighth grade and is ready for the challenges of collegiate field hockey and the classroom.
