Syracuse And Tennessee Paired In Maui Invitational

Syracuse is scheduled to face Tennessee in the first round of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational on Monday, Nov. 24, at 2:30 p.m. ET in Hawaii. The game will be televised on ESPN2. The full tournament bracket was announced on Tuesday.

Six of the eight teams in the field -- Gonzaga, Kansas, Marquette, Purdue, Tennessee and UCLA -- earned NCAA Tournament berths a year ago.

SYRACUSE IN THE MAUI JIM MAUI INVITATIONAL

The Orange are making the program's fourth appearance in the event.
Syracuse captured the Invitational crown in it's other three visits (1990, 1998, 2013).
In 2013, Syracuse defeated Minnesota, California and Baylor to claim the title.

THE SYRACUSE-TENNESSEE SERIES

Syracuse and Tennessee have split six previous meetings.
The most recent encounter between the two squads was a Jan. 19, 2002 matchup won by Tennessee, 66-62.
Tennessee won the first pairing with Syracuse, a 87-83 triumph on Dec. 15, 1972.
The last Orange victory against the Volunteers was on Nov. 28, 1993, a 98-65 decision.

First-year Syracuse head coach Adrian Autry was a member of the Orange team that won the Maui Jim Maui Invitational in 1990. Autry, a long-time assistant at his alma mater, was hired to lead the program following the retirement of Hall of Fame Coach Jim Boeheim. His roster returns guard Judah Mintz (16.3 ppg, 4.6 apg.), who was selected to the All-ACC Freshman Team last year. Mintz participated in the NBA Draft process before withdrawing at the end of May. Forward Chris Bell (6.6 ppg., 1.8 rpg.), is a second returning starter.

Tennessee advanced o the NCAA Tournament's "Sweet 16" last season and finished the campaign with a 25-11 record. Veteran coach Rick Barnes has guided Tennessee to five consecutive NCAA berths.The Volunteers are also playing in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational for the fourth time.
