#5 Cardinals Defeat 'Cuse

Syracuse (2-9, 0-1 ACC) lost in straight sets to No. 5 Louisville (10-1, 1-0 ACC) in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener Friday night.
"I think we faced a really good Louisville team," said Syracuse Head Coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam. "We did the best we could tonight against a different level of competition, but we will learn from it. We will analyze film and we will work hard to improve and prepare in order to be ready to compete against Notre Dame on Sunday."
The 2022 NCAA Runner Up got of to a hot start in the opening set, and comfortably played its way to a 25-15 victory in set one. Cherlin Antonio led all players with six kills in the first frame. Louisville was an impressive 15-for-21 on attacks for a .667 hitting percentage in the set.Â

Syracuse won two of the first two points of the second set but Louisville was no match and quickly regained a strong lead. The Cardinals had 12 kills in the second frame and held Syracuse to eight en route to winning the frame 25-11 and taking a 2-0 lead in the match.Â

The Cardinals started the third set on a 7-1 run. A kill by Lauren McCabe made it 7-2 but the Cardinals scored six-straight points to lead 13-2. Louisville went on to win 25-8 completing the ACC-opener in three sets.Â

Antonio led the Orange with 11 kills while Mira Ledermueller had an assist on 15 of Syracuse's 20 kills.

It was a balanced attack for the victors who were led by Reese Robins, seven kills and four blocks, and Hannah Sherman with four kills and five blocks.Â
