
#8 Clemson Holds Off Syracuse

#8 Clemson (9-2-1, 3-1-0) used a relentless offensive attack that featured 29 shot attempts in a 5-1 triumph against Syracuse (2-9-1, 0-4-0) in Clemson, S.C.
It was the second defeat to a top-10 team in the last three outings for the Orange. Syracuse was edged by #3 Florida State, 3-2, on Sept. 21.
THE TIGERS ROAR FIRST
Clemson jumped ahead of Syracuse early in the match. Makenna Morris placed a cross pass right in front of the goal and Tatum Short fought off a defender to deflect the ball in, just 1:40 into the contest. The hosts extended that lead at 35:05 on a tally from Emily Brough.
A SOUTHERN FLUREY
The Orange put a scare in their ranked hosts near the end of the first half. With Syracuse trailing, 2-0, the sharpshooting Erin Flurey drove the ball into the upper right corner for her fourth goal of the campaign. The tally, at 42:34, cut the Tiger lead in half and sent the two squads into the intermission with Clemson clinging to a 2-1 advantage.

A SOLID SECOND FOR CLEMSON
McKenna pushed the Tiger margin back to two. 8:17 into the second half, when her blast found a narrow lane between Syracuse keeper Shea Vanderbosch and the right post. At 70:47, a pass from Emily Brough gave Caroline Conti a similar look, and she converted to up the score to 4-1. Jenna Tobia finished off the scoring with a goal at 74:33.
VANDERBOSCH BUSY IN GOAL
Vanderbosch, who leads the ACC in saves, had another busy evening for the Orange. She finished with nine saves, with seven of those in the first 45 minutes of play.

Syracuse hosts Wake Forest on Thursday, October 5, at the SU Soccer Stadium. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
