
Syracuse Moves Up in NFHCA Coaches Poll

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Picking up a pair of ACC wins last weekend, the Syracuse University field hockey team moved up in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) released its week six poll on Tuesday.
Winner of four straight, red-hot Syracuse (10-3, 4-2 ACC) moved up two spots to the number 12 slot this week, collecting 419 points. The Orange were ranked 14th last week with 385 points.
North Carolina was the top team in the poll this week with 953 points, including 23 first-place votes. Northwestern was second with 938 points and 26 top spot votes. Ohio State (845) moved to third while Virginia (748), Syracuse's next opponent, slipped one spot. UConn (711) rounded out the top five.
In addition to Syracuse, five other ACC schools were ranked inside the top 20 this week: No. 1 North Carolina, No. 4 Virginia, No. 9 Boston College, No. 11 Duke, No. 18 California.
Across the 2024 season, Syracuse will play nine teams ranked in the top 20 this week: No. 1 North Carolina, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Virginia, No. 5 UConn, No. 9 Boston College, No. 11 Duke, No. 15 Princeton, No. 16 Penn State, No. 18 California.
The Orange, who have four top-20 wins this year, hit the road for a one-off weekend. No. 12 Syracuse takes on No. 4 Virginia on Friday afternoon. Game time is slated for 3 p.m. on ACC Network Extra from Turf Field in Charlottesville, Virginia.
