From the Start
- It's a one-off weekend for the Orange as 12th-ranked Syracuse faces No. 4 Virginia Friday afternoon in Charlottesville, Virginia.
- The Orange are coming off of a four-game home stand, sweeping through No. 16 Louisville, No. 14 Princeton, Stanford, and No. 18 California. Syracuse allowed just three goals in those four games.
- Syracuse is looking to halt a losing slide against the Cavaliers dating back to the 2015 season. Since 2016, Syracuse and Virginia have met 11 times and battled to one-goal games in nine of those contests, including a pair of 3-2 decisions last year for UVA.
- The Orange are on their four-game run, the second-longest winning streak in the Lynn Farquhar Era, which opened with a five-game heater last season. The Orange have won three-straight ACC games, the longest run under Farquhar.
- Friday's matinee will be carried on ACC Network Extra.
Winner Winner
- Bo van Kempen must love chicken dinners because she has racked up the game-winners this year.
- Through the first 13 games of the season, van Kempen has accounted for seven of the 10 game-winning goals for the 'Cuse, including five of the last seven.
- The graduate student is tied for the most game-winning goals for the Orange since joining the ACC in 2013.
- Assistant coach Emma Russell '16 racked seven during the 2014 season while Charlotte de Vries '23 also scored seven in her senior season (2022).
Conference Meetings
- Syracuse head coach Lynn Farquhar is looking to guide the Orange to their fifth ACC win of the year on Friday.
- The Orange have not won five games in ACC play since going 6-0 in 2015, though Syracuse now has six seasons with at least four league since wins since joining the ACC in 2013.
- With a win on Friday, Farquhar would tie former head coach Ange Bradley for the most conference wins for a second-year head coach in program history. Syracuse went 5-1 in the BIG EAST in 2008 with Farquhar on Bradley's staff.
FINISH THEM
- They say it's not how you start, but how you finish and late in quarters, the Orange have more finish than a hardware store.
- Syracuse has scored 12 of its 29 goals in the final five minutes of quarters this fall.
- The Orange have goals in the final five minutes quarters in seven of the 13 games to date, including four at Lock Haven in the season opener.
- Syracuse is 7-0 when scoring in the final five minutes of any quarter and 3-3 when not scoring late in periods.
- Syracuse got a literal last minute goal in the Lafayette win as Bo van Kempen slotted home the game-winner with 35 seconds to play. It was all newcomers on the goal as Nina van Asselen drew the penalty corner, that was then insert by Taja Gans, stopped by Annabelle Vossenaar and drag flicked home by van Kempen.
- The Orange added two more last weekend with late goals in the second quarter against both Stanford and California from Willemijn Boogert and Bo van Kempen.
- Syracuse is tied for the most late goals in the ACC with its 12. Boston College also has 12 on the year. Louisville, Virginia and Wake Forest all have 11. Duke and North Carolina have nine each, rounded out by California (8) and Stanford (3).
