Orange Cruise Past Slippery Rock For Exhibition Win

A torrid effort from beyond the arc helped Syracuse close out its exhibition slate with a 96-51 victory Wednesday night against Slippery Rock at the JMA Wireless Dome.
The Orange knocked down 15 triples against Slippery Rock and shot just under 47-percent from downtown (15-of-32). Four Syracuse players made multiple 3-pointers, led by Chris Bell's five.
Bell paced Syracuse in scoring with 17 points, followed by Elijah Moore's 12. Donnie Freeman (11), Kyle Cuffe Jr. (10) and Jyare Davis (10) also scored in double figures.
How The Game Was Decided
After a tightly contested first 13 minutes, a 29-6 run in the final seven of the first half propelled Syracuse to a 51-24 advantage at the break. The Orange made eight-of-nine field goals during that closing stretch, with six different players scoring.
The Orange led 22-18 when Kyle Cuffe Jr. converted on a three-point play to ignite the scoring outburst. Chris Bell and Donnie Freeman tallied eight points each during the run, which Bell capped by connecting on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to end the half.
Syracuse continued its momentum out of the locker room, with Davis, Bell and J.J. Starling all hitting triples in the opening three minutes to give Syracuse a 60-24 lead. Syracuse went ahead by as many as 48 in the second half at 85-37.
Hot From Downtown
Syracuse nearly outscored Slippery Rock's total from behind the arc alone, with 45 of its 95 points coming via triples. The Orange made nine from deep in the first half on just 18 attempts, which included four from Bell.
Moore hit four 3-pointers on the night, with J.J. Starling and Davis both adding a pair of their own. Lucas Taylor and Eddie Lampkin Jr. each made one to bring Syracuse's final count to 15.
During the final seven minutes of the first half and the first three of the second half, the Orange hit seven 3-pointers, which helped Syracuse take control of the game.
Freshman Success
Syracuse's freshmen turned in a stellar performance, as Freeman (11 points), Moore (12) and Petar Majstorovic (3) combined for 26 points.
All of Moore's 12 points came via 3-pointers, while Freeman did his damage from the free throw line with seven makes at the charity stripe in 15 minutes of action.
Majstorovic added three points to go along with six rebounds and a block.
