BALTIMORE – Five Syracuse University men's lacrosse players were named among Inside Lacrosse's Top 50 Men's Players for 2025. The publication put out the final set of its annual list Friday afternoon.
Syracuse had the second-most players in the Top 50 this year, landing five. Only defending national champion Notre Dame had more with eight.
Attackman Joey Spallina was ranked sixth, while close defenseman Billy Dwan was ranked 23rd. Midfielders Sam English and Michael Leo were 33rd and 38th, respectively, while Owen Hiltz was slotted 42nd.
Inside Lacrosse's Dan Aburn, Terry Foy, Dan Kaplan, Matt Kinnear and Kevin Brown, along with guest voter Dan Arestia of Sticks In Lacrosse, all contributed their Top 50 Players in NCAA Lacrosse. Those votes were averaged, revealing a Top 50 with more variance and less predictability than ever, per the publication.
Spallina led one of the nation's prolific offenses last year, racking 88 points with 37 goals and 51 assists, the most points in program history by a sophomore, to rank third in Division I. Dwan started 18 games as a sophomore, causing 18 turnovers with five games that included multiple caused turnovers. A versatile two-way midfielder that saw action on the faceoff wing as well, English scored 23 goals with 11 assists, 34 ground balls while scoring on nearly 30 percent of his total shots. One of the top midfield threats for Syracuse last season, Leo tagged opponents for 28 goals alongside nine assists, scoring on over 35 percent of his shots, including five extra-man goals. Hiltz finished second in points for the Orange last year, scoring 38 goals and 27 assists for 65 points. He was tied for the team lead with Spallina on the power play as each attackman scored six times with the man advantage.
