Notre Dame Defeats Syracuse Tennis in ACC Tournament

CARY, N.C. – The Syracuse women's tennis team concluded its season with a 4-1 loss to Notre Dame in the second round of the ACC Tournament on Thursday night in Cary, North Carolina at Cary Tennis Park.
Tournament action started with the Syracuse (10-11) duo of Miyuka Kimoto and Viktoriya Kanapatskaya taking down Notre Dame's (17-8) Julia Andreach and Page Freeman in the number one spot, 6-2. The number two spot quickly followed as Carrie Beckman and Akari Matsuno defeated Constance Levivier and Anastasia Sysoeva, 6-4.
The doubles event came down to the wire as the pairing of Emilie Elde and Shiori Ito took their match against Yashna Yellayi and Nibi Ghosh to a tiebreaker in the number three spot. After the score was tied 6-6, the Notre Dame duo won the tiebreaker, 7-4, and secured the doubles point for the Fighting Irish.
Singles play started with a win for Notre Dame as Bojana Pozder beat Elde in the number three spot, 6-1, 6-2. The number six spot was next to finish as Ito lost to Matsuno, 6-4, 6-3. The Fighting Irish claimed the win after Andreach defeated Kimoto in a three-set match, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-0.
Polina Kozyreva earned the Orange's lone win of the contest as she bested Yellayi in the number five spot, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Kanapatskaya and Sysoeva each took their matches into a third set before they were abandoned. Kanapatskaya faced Freeman in the number two spot and the score finished 7-5, 6-7 (0-7). Sysoeva went against Ghosh in the number four spot and finished with the score at 7-5, 5-7, 0-2.
