Seniors Angel Jasso and Lindsey Hendrix were named to the 2024 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I Mid-Atlantic Second Team Thursday afternoon.
Â
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third team selected. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all student-athletes now become eligible for the 2024 NFCA Division I All-America squads. Jasso and Hendrix are the first Syracuse duo to earn the honor since utility Bryce Holmgren (second team) and pitcher Alexa Romero (first team) were selected in 2018.
Â
Jasso concluded her collegiate career by leading the Orange in nearly every offensive statistical category. The outfielder paced Syracuse in batting average (.386), hits (64), runs scored (41), doubles (9), triples (7) and stolen bases (16). Jasso's seven triples and 23 multi-hit games in 2024 are the program recorded by a senior while her 64 hits are tied with Alexis Switenko (2006) for the most by a fourth year. The Angleton, Texas, native had three five-game streaks with multiple hits this season while reaching base in 40 of the 51 contests and scoring multiple runs in 10 games. Jasso recorded hits in all four top-15 victories against No. 15 Virginia Tech and No. 14 Florida State, including two hits with a run scored and three RBI in Syracuse's run-rule win against the Seminoles to earn the series win. Jasso is the sixth Orange outfielder to be named to an NFCA All-Region squad, joining Tanya Rose (2002, 2004 and 2005), Kristen Collins (2002), Cassie Morales (2004 and 2005), Veronica Grant (2010) and Lisaira Daniels (2010, 2011 and 2012).
Â
Hendrix, an All-ACC Third Team selection, concluded the regular season in stellar fashion, becoming the first pitcher in program history to win four games against top-15 opponents. The lefty earned back-to-back ACC Pitcher of the Week honors, the first occurrence by a Syracuse player since 2011. During ACC play, Hendrix made 11 appearances and nine starts, posting a 6-3 record to go along with a 2.66 ERA in 52.2 innings. The Orlando, Fla., native pitched in 23 games in 2024, making 20 starts in the circle, and holding a career-best 13-4 record with a 2.20 ERA across 108.0 frames. Hendrix is the sixth Syracuse pitcher to earn NFCA All-Region Team, joining Erin Downey (2006), Jenna Caira (2011 and 2012), Sydney O'Hara (2014, 2016 and 2017), AnnaMarie Gatti (2016) and Alexa Romero (2018).
Â
This marks the first time where Syracuse has had a member of the program earn all-region status through the NFCA since Neli Casares-Maher earned first team honors in 2022.
