Syracuse swept the final Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) weekly awards on Tuesday as sophomore Madelyn Lopez was tabbed the league's Player of the Week and senior Lindsey Hendrix earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the second straight week.
Â
The Orange swept the awards for the first time since April 8, 2017, when Faith Cain and Alexa Romero were recognized. Hendrix becomes the first Syracuse player to earn a weekly honor in back-to-back weeks since 2011.
Â
Lopez had a strong showing against No. 14 Florida State last weekend, batting .500 (5-for-10) across the three games while scoring five runs. In Saturday's 13-5 run-rule victory to clinch the series, the sophomore went 2-for-3 with two RBI and crossed the plate three times in four trips to the plate. For the week, Lopez had seven hits in 14 at bats, scored five runs and drove in a pair while picking up multi-hit contests in three of the four games. Lopez is the first Syracuse player to earn the ACC distinction since Cain in 2017.
Â
Hendrix continued her stellar run against some of the top competition in the country, going 2-0 against No. 14 Florida State to give Syracuse back-to-back top-15 series victories. The senior threw all 12 innings in her starts, allowing eight runs (two earned) while striking out seven batters. Hendrix posted a 1.17 ERA behind a Syracuse offense that plated 17 runs in the two victories. Hendrix is the third player in program history to earn a weekly award two straight weeks joining pitcher Jenna Caira (May 2 and 9, 2011) and outfielder Tanya Rose (March 15 and 22, 2004). Both Caira and Rose received the distinction while Syracuse was in the Big East Conference.
Â
Eighth-seeded Syracuse begins its ACC title run Wednesday at 1 p.m. against ninth-seeded Boston College from Duke Softball Stadium in Durham, N.C. All games throughout the tournament air live on ACC Network.
