Syracuse Claims Opener, 2-0
8/15/2024 8:25:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Forward Ava Uribe contributed a goal and an assist in her first collegiate game and goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch posted a shutout in Syracuse's (1-0) season-opening, 2-0 victory against UMass (0-1) at the SU Soccer Stadium.
'CUSE STRIKES EARLY
Uribe, who missed all of last season with a leg injury, took advantage of her first appearance in a regular-season game. She pounced on a free ball, advanced toward the UMass net, and drove the ball into the lower left-hand corner. The tally, at 12:54 of the first half, gave the Orange a lead it would never relinquish.
ORANGE ADD ON
Syracuse held on to the momentum generated by the first net finder and promptly added another. Uribe was involved again, this time attacking the left side and offering a perfect cross to Ashley Rauch who redirected the ball into the open goal. Rauch's goal, 19:38 into the contest, finished off the evening's scoring.
VANDERBOSCH POSTS A ZERO
Vanderbosch, who led the ACC in saves and save average a year ago, kept the Minutewomen off the board with three saves in the contest. It was the seventh shutout of her Syracuse tenure.
NOTABLE NOTES:
