Junior Ava Uribe scored 17 minutes into the contest and Syracuse (4-0-1) held off Northwestern (3-2-0) the rest of the way in a 1-0 triumph at the SU Soccer Stadium on Thursday.
The Orange are off to the program's best five-game start since 1997, when Syracuse began the campaign 5-0-0.
URIBE GIVES ORANGE THE ADVANTAGE
After an evenly played start, Uribe intercepted a Northwestern pass intended for keeper Reiley Fitzpatrick and drove the ball with her left foot into the net. It was Uribe's second goal of the campaign.
NORTHWESTERN APPLIES PRESSURE
The visiting Wildcats had opportunities to even the score. Northwestern had eight first-half shots and another nine after the intermission. Senior Emma Phillips finished with four shots, while junior Caterina Regazzoni and freshman Kennedy Roesch each had three attempts.
VANDERBOSCH RETURNS
Junior Shea Vanderbosch, who had missed the two previous Syracuse games with an injury, returned to guard the net. She finished with eight saves and her third shutout of the season. Vanderbosch preserved the win with a diving stop on Roesch that came with 4:17 remaining.
