
Orange Stopped at SMU

Host SMU (5-3-0, 1-0-0) scored three second-half goals and halted Syracuse's (6-2-1, 0-1-0) two game winning streak in a 4-1 decision in Dallas, Texas, on Thursday night.Â
It was the ACC opener for both clubs and the first-ever ACC contest for the Mustangs.
MUSTANGS BREAK OPEN TIGHT MATCH
Both squads had opportunities in the first 10 minutes of play. SMU managed to tally first following a scramble in front of the Syracuse net. Truth Byers found the net on an assist by Liz Eddy at 10:49 of the contest. The two teams played even for the remainder of the opening period.
SMU POUNCES EARLY IN THE SECOND
The Mustangs extended their lead in the first few minutes of the second half when Eliana Salama fed Liz Eddy for the tally at 49:05. A little more than 16 minutes later, SMU added on to its margin on a goal by Emma Alvord.
FLUREY GETS THE ORANGE ON THE BOARD
Junior Erin Flurey's attacking style earned her a penalty kick with just under 20 minutes remaining in the contest. Flurey slowly approached the ball, forcing the SMU keeper to commit, and directed the ball into the open side of the goal. It was Flurey's third goal of the season.
BUSY VANDERBOSCHÂ KEEPS THE ORANGE WITHIN STRIKING DISTANCE
Junior goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch was tested throughout the contest by SMU. The Mustangs got off 20 shots, including 12 on goal, and Vanderbosch made eight stops. Six of her saves came in the second half.
ALVORD CLOSES IT OUT
Passes from Salama and Kelly Gordon found Alvord, who finished the game's scoring with her second of the contest. at 75:24.

Syracuse plays the second of three straight road games when it faces Virginia Tech on Sunday, September 15, at noon in Blacksburg, Va.

- SMU outshot the Orange, 20-15.
- Flurey had a squad-best four shots, including three on goal.
- Redshirt sophomore Maya McDermott had three shots on goal and barely missed the net on a first-half header.
