Orange Move to 2-0 After Defeating JMU

SYRACUSE N.Y. – The Syracuse tennis team (2-0) defeated James Madison (0-4) to earn its second win of the season, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon behind a strong effort in singles play.

The Dukes claimed the doubles point, but 'Cuse won five-straight singles matches to open individual play. The Orange turned the page quickly from doubles, with all-six 'Cuse players in the lineup taking the first set in singles to turn the tide in the contest.

Before today's match, the Orange recognized former volunteer assistant coach Len Lopoo for 13 years of hard work and dedication he gave to Syracuse's tennis program. He was presented with a bound book containing memories of his time with the program.

THE RUNDOWN

Syracuse lost all three doubles matches to lose the doubles point.
All six singles players for the Orange won their first set in singles.
Shiori Ito started Syracuse off strong with its first win in singles at the No. 5 spot with the result of 6-1, 6-4. She has won all four of her singles sets this spring.
At No. 6 singles, Constance Levivier matched Ito's score with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph of her own. It was her second victory this season, as the junior has dropped just eight games through her first two matches.
Miyuka Kimoto clinched the match for the Orange after coming from behind in the second set at the No. 1 spot. After winning the opening set 6-3, Kimoto trailed 4-5 in the second but won the final three games to earn her second win of the campaign.
Nelly Knezkova joined Ito, Levivier and Kimoto at 2-0 on the season in singles with a 6-4, 6-2 result at the No. 2 spot.
