
Orange Sweep Duke in Dominant Display

The Syracuse University volleyball team (12-5, 4-3 ACC) swept Duke (5-13, 2-5 ACC) in convincing fashion on Friday evening at the Women's Building, winning 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-20). The victory marks Syracuse's first sweep of an ACC opponent since defeating Clemson 3-0 on October 21, 2022.
Gabby McLaughlin led the Orange with 11 kills while adding 11 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. Skylar George contributed 10 kills, and Sydnie Waller added eight kills while hitting an impressive .375. Setter Tehya Maeva orchestrated the offense with 32 assists and reached a career milestone, recording her 2,000th career assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Syracuse took control early in the opening set, building a 20-14 advantage behind strong play from McLaughlin and George. Duke fought back to close within 23-22, but the Orange closed out the set on a block by McLaughlin and Soana Lea'ea to win 25-22. Syracuse hit .211 in the frame with 13 kills.
The second set saw Syracuse pull away midway through, using a 4-0 run to take a 16-12 lead. Waller was dominant during the stretch, recording three consecutive kills to help the Orange build their cushion. The Orange never looked back, closing out the set 25-17 while hitting a match-best .311 with 16 kills.
Syracuse controlled the third set from the start, jumping out to a 5-1 lead. Duke cut the deficit to 22-20, but the Orange finished strong with kills from Harris-Waddy and McLaughlin to seal the 25-20 victory and complete the sweep.
NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
- Gabby McLaughlin recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs.
- Tehya Maeva reached 2,000 career assists, finishing the match with 32 assists.
- Skylar George posted 10 kills, marking her sixth match this season with double-digit kills.
