Syracuse Athletics mourns the passing of Arthur Jones, who passed away on Friday morning.
Jones was a star for the Syracuse football program from 2005-09 before being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2010. He went on to an eight-year NFL career, including playing a pivotal role in the Ravens winning Super Bowl XLVII, with a sack and fumble recovery in the game.
"Arthur Jones was a tremendous player and even better person," said Director of Athletics John Wildhack. "He was someone that brought joy to everyone he encountered. We were fortunate that Arthur continued to support our football program after his playing career. He impacted many of our student-athletes, always with a smile and uplifting message. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones. He will be forever Orange."
Jones collected 38.5 tackles for loss in his Syracuse career, the most in school history by an interior defensive lineman. He was a three-time All-BIG EAST selection, including earning First Team honors as both a junior and senior.
"I'm saddened to hear of the passing of Arthur Jones," said head coach Fran Brown. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to have gotten to know him over the past two years. His kindness and personality were a joy to be around. My prayers are with his family, friends, our alumni and everyone who knew him during this difficult time."
An Endicott, New York native, Jones was a team captain as a senior. He made 146 collegiate tackles as a member of the Orange, which ranked inside the top-10 in program history for career tackles by a defensive lineman at the conclusion of his career. Jones' pro career also included stops in Indianapolis (2014-16) and Washington (2017), in addition to the Baltimore (2010-13).
