CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After a 10-point outburst last Friday, Syracuse University junior attackman Joey Spallina was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced its weekly men's lacrosse winners Tuesday afternoon.
Spallina tied a career high with eight points against Vermont Friday night at the JMA Wireless Dome, splitting his line evenly across five goals and five assists. He had a hand in eight of the 10 first-half goals for the second-ranked Syracuse program. The Mount Sinai, New York was efficient with the ball, scoring five times on nine total shots, seven of which were on goal.
This is the second time in as many weeks that a Syracuse player has won ACC Offensive Player of the Week as Spallina joins Michael Leo, who won the honor in week one.
North Carolina's Michael Gianficaro was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
The No. 2 Orange continue to roll through five opponents mentioned in the poll this week. After dispatching a Towson team ranked 17th at the start of the game on Monday, Syracuse takes on sixth-ranked Maryland this Saturday in College Park. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at SECU Stadium for the first top-10 battle for Syracuse this season. BTN+ will have the broadcast, as will Syracuse Sports Network and TK99/105 locally.
