SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 32 ranked Syracuse women's tennis team (7-1, 0-1 ACC) come up short in its first ACC match against No. 3 North Carolina (8-3, 1-0 ACC) on Friday, losing 4-0 at Drumlins Country Club.The Orange lost the doubles point for just the second time this season before the Tar Heels clinched by winning the first three singles matches to finish.

The matched ended after Carson Tanguilig cinched the match for the Tar Heels at the No. 3 singles position. Three singles matches went unfinished.

THE RUNDOWN

The Orange lost the doubles point for just the second time this season and the first since Jan. 25 against James Madison.
Serafima Shastova and Monika Wojcik defeated the No. 34 ranked duo of Tatum Evans and Theadora Rabman at the No. 3 position, 6-1. This was the pairing's second win together this season. This was also the first time since 2019 that Syracuse has won a doubles match against UNC when Sofya Golubovskaya and Sofya Treshcheva defeated Alle Sanford and Makenna Jones, 6-1, at the No. 2 spot.
Nelly Knezkova won her first set in singles 7-5 against Theadora Rabman, a top 15 ranked oppoenent, at the No. 2 position. Knezkova was up 1-0 in the second when the match was halted.
North Carolina won matches at the Nos. 1, 3 and 6 spots to secure the victory.
The Tar Heels now lead the all-time series against the Orange, 15-0.
