Syracuse (12-16, 6-11 ACC) used a commanding 46-22 advantage in paint points to defeat NC State (11-17, 4-13 ACC) on Wednesday night at the JMA Wireless Dome, 74-60.
Graduate center Eddie Lampkin Jr. posted his 12th double-double (14 points-15 rebounds) and senior Jyare Davis added 15 points and seven boards to the Orange cause. Junior guard J.J. Starling led Syracuse with 17 points, 15 of which came after the intermission.
The Orange shot .583 (28-of-48) from the field as a team in the win and eight of nine players that saw action in the contest scored. Senior guard Jaquan Carlos had eight points and junior forward Chris Bell contributed seven points, both in reserve roles.
How The Game Was Decided
The Orange, who never trailed in the contest, led by double-digits throughout the second half until the Wolfpack cut its deficit to nine, 55-46, with 9:20 to go in regulation following a Marcus Hill layup. NC State later trimmed Syracuse's advantage to just eight, 57-49, when Dontrez Styles knocked down a 3-pointer at the 8:38 mark.
However, Syracuse immediately responded with a 7-0 spurt to re-establish its double-digit lead. Lampkin started the run with a layup before Starling connected on a triple and a jumper to push the advantage back to 15 points. The Orange led by double-digits over the final 8:17 of the contest.
Starling, Davis Take Over in Second Half
Starling and Davis combined to score 25 of Syracuse's 36 second-half points. Starling tallied 11 in the final 7:18 of the contest. He went 5-of-7 from the field in the second half to spearhead a 13-of-18 (.722) shooting effort for the Orange over the final 20 minutes.
Davis reached double figures for the sixth time against an ACC opponent this season, going 5-of-7 from the field on the way to his 15 points. He scored 10 after intermission and registered the first six Orange points out of the locker room following the break.
Eddie's Double-Double
Lampkin was also efficient on the offensive end for the Orange, making 5-of-7 shots from the field on the night. His nine first-half points led the Orange, as he was one of six Syracuse players to make two or more field goals in the period.
He complimented his 14 points with a game-high 15 boards, 13 of which came on the defensive glass. It was his 17th game this season reaching double-digit rebounds and third time hitting at least 15, all of which have come in the last nine outings.
Lampkin's double-double was his 12th of the season, tying him with Rakeem Christmas (2014-15) for the most for an Orange player since the start of the 2014-15 season. Only Jesse Edwards (15, 2022-23) and Oshea Brissett (14, 2017-18) had more during that span for Syracuse.
Balancing Act
Syracuse raced ahead 28-12 in the game's opening 12 minutes behind a balanced offensive attack. Seven different players scored in the first 11:36 of action, with all seven making at least one field goal. Of Syracuse's 28 points in that run, 18 came in the paint.
Davis and Bell led the Orange during this stretch with five points each, with Naheem McLeod, Lampkin, Jaquan Carlos and Kyle Cuffe Jr. all adding four apiece. Starling also scored a basket during this run, which saw the Orange make 12-of-20 field goal attempts to start the contest.
Syracuse maintained a double-digit advantage over the final 8:24 of the first half and went into intermission leading, 38-25. Lucas Taylor became the eighth Syracuse player to score in the period with 2:05 remaining when he knocked down the second 3-pointer of the game for the Orange.

Syracuse kicks off its final regular-season road trip of the season Saturday with a matchup at Virginia Tech. The contest is slated for a noon start on The CW.
