
Syracuse Falls To No. 2 Duke

Eddie Lampkin Jr. reached 1,000 career points Wednesday night as Syracuse (10-13, 4-8 ACC) fell to No. 2 Duke (20-2, 12-0 ACC) at the JMA Wireless Dome, 83-54.

How The Game Was Decided
Syracuse kept within striking distance of Duke in the first half and a 3-pointer by Lucas Taylor brought the Orange within nine with 1:26 remaining. However, Duke scored the final five points of the frame to take a 37-23 lead into intermission. Duke's Tyrese Proctor then hit a 3-pointer to open the second half, which pushed the Blue Devils up by 17. They maintained a lead of at least 15 points for the remainder of the contest.
Lampkin Jr. Hits 1,000 Points
Lampkin Jr. became the second Syracuse player in as many games to reach 1,000 career points. He entered the night with 999 and hit the number with his first basket of the contest, which came on a layup with 2:05 remaining in the opening half. Lampkin Jr. joins Starling, who achieved the feat against California on Saturday.

After scoring 776 points during the first four seasons of his career at TCU and Colorado, Lampkin Jr. has notched 225 with the Orange this season to reach the career milestone.

The Blue Devils raced out to a 20-9 advantage in the opening 10 minutes behind five made 3-pointers. Starling scored Syracuse's first seven points of the game before Chris Bell connected on the team's first triple of the night to cut the Duke lead back to single digits, 20-12. A McLeod layup on the next possession brought the Orange to within six. Â

Duke extended its margin back to 14 at halftime but the Orange allowed just 37 first-half points. After making five 3-pointers in the first 10 minutes, Syracuse held the Blue Devils to just one make in their final five attempts of the period.

- Duke's reserves outscored Syracuse's, 28-23, snapping the Orange's streak of 17 consecutive games tallying more bench points than their opponent.
- Five Duke player reached double figures, led by Proctor's 16 points. Syracuse limited Cooper Flagg, the ACC's third leading scorer entering Wednesday, to just 11 points, his lowest output in an ACC game on the campaign.
