SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Three Syracuse University men's lacrosse standouts earned more preseason honors as the USILA Division I Preseason All-America teams were announced. The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) released its preseason honorees Wednesday afternoon.
Joey Spallina was named USILA Division I First Team All-America at attack while short-stick defensive midfielder Carter Rice and close defenseman Billy Dwan III were both named USILA Division I Second Team All-America.
With a game in 2025 already in the books, a resounding 24-5 win over Jacksonville on Saturday, Spallina is tied for the team lead with five points behind three goals and two assists. He tallied a man-up goal in the season opener alongside a ground ball. Only one game into his junior season, Spallina is 39 points from hitting the 200-point mark for his Syracuse career.
Rice helped the Orange defense limit Jacksonville scoring, aiding to keep the Dolphins off the board for the first 20 minutes of the game with two shutout quarters, the first and third. Rice snagged a pair of ground balls and backed the Orange to nearly 90 percent in the clearing game. Rice anchored a defensive midfield unit that did not allow a goal from the Dolphins' starting midfield unit.
Dwan was crucial on the defensive third to also help limit Jacksonville to just two goals from its starting attack line while ensuring that just one Dolphin finished with two points with zero multiple goal getters anywhere from the visitors. Dwan snapped up two ground balls and caused a turnover.
The No. 2/2 Orange return to action on Friday, February 7 against Vermont. Opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m. at the JMA Wireless Dome following the 2025 women's lacrosse season opener against UAlbany at 1:30 p.m.
Season and single-game tickets for both men's and women's lacrosse, including a combo package, are available at Cuse.com/tickets or by calling the box off at 1-888-DOME-TIX (1-888-3663-849).
