WASHINGTON, D.C. – Three Syracuse University men's lacrosse standouts earned a spot on the 2025 Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List. The Tewaaraton Foundation announced its first round of potential candidates Thursday evening.
Billy Dwan III, Owen Hiltz, and Joey Spallina were named among the 50 men's lacrosse players announced on the Watch List.
An All-ACC and USILA All-America Honorable Mention selection last year, Hiltz will serve as a team co-captain this year. The Peterborough, Ontario native will again look to quarterback the offense. Last season he finished with 65 points on 38 goals and 27 assists, including a pair of game-winning goals and six extra-man tallies. He finished second on the attack unit with six caused turnovers as well and led the unit with a 35.2 shooting percent, scoring on over half of his shots on goal for the year.
A USILA and Inside Lacrosse All-America Third Team pick last spring, Spallina returns for his junior year after leading Syracuse's offense a year ago, racking a Syracuse sophomore-record 88 points on 37 goals and 51 assists. The Mount Sinai, New York tallied four game-winning goals and was tied with Hiltz for the team lead with man-up goals. Spallina added five caused turnovers to his line as well.
A dynamic defenseman, Dwan was also named USILA and Inside Lacrosse All-America Third Team in his sophomore season. Also a co-captain this spring, Dwan caused a team second-best 18 turnovers last year while snaring 34 ground balls. The Lutherville, Marylander is a threat in transition as well, putting away eight goals, the fifth-most points by a defenseman in program history and the third-most pole goals in program history for a season. His eight goals are the most by a Syracuse defenseman since Chad Smith tallied seven in 1994.
The No. 2/2 Orange return to action on Friday, February 7 against Vermont. Opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m. at the JMA Wireless Dome following the 2025 women's lacrosse season opener against UAlbany at 1:30 p.m.
Season and single-game tickets for both men's and women's lacrosse, including a combo package, are available at Cuse.com/tickets or by calling the box off at 1-888-DOME-TIX (1-888-3663-849).
