
Maeva and McLaughlin Tabbed as 2025 Volleyball Captains

The Syracuse Volleyball program tabbed senior Gabriella McLaughlin and junior Tehya Maeva as the team's 2025 captains, Head Coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam announced on Thursday.

Both McLaughlin and Maeva come to Syracuse after transferring from the University of Nevada where the pair played together for the past two seasons. The two accounted for a large portion of Nevada's offense a year ago, with Maeva racking up 897 assists and McLaughlin earning a career-high 443 kills.

McLaughlin comes to Syracuse after three seasons with the Wolfpack where she tallied 999 kills and 81 service aces. Her 2024 season earned her a spot on the All-Mountain West Team, Nevada's lone selection.

Maeva posted career highs in assists (897), kills (95), digs (237), and service aces (29) as a sophomore with the Wolfpack. She has eclipsed 50 assists in a single match twice in her career, most recently against Fresno State on October 24th of 2024.

The two will lead the Orange into battle for the first time this weekend in a road exhibition match against Buffalo on Saturday, August 23rd. The Orange's first regular season match will take place on Friday, August 29th against Niagara at the Women's Building at 7:00 PM.
