Orange Reverse Sweep Cornell

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University Volleyball team improved to 6-0 on the season with a reverse sweep against Cornell (18-25, 25-27, 25-15, 25-17, 15-11) on Saturday afternoon at the UAlbany Invitational. Cornell moves to 0-2 to start off its season. The Orange went undefeated in tournament play this weekend, winning the UAlbany Invitational.Â

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
In the first set, Syracuse battled throughout but could not overtake the Big Red. Gabby McLauglin accounted for eight of the 13 kills in the opening set for the Orange, but Cornell out lasted 'Cuse with 15 kills of its own. Seven errors for Syracuse saw Cornell to take set one 25-18.Â
Syracuse and Cornell played in a back-and-forth second set, keeping the score tight. The second set featured six lead changes and 12Â score ties as the Orange attempted to overcome a 1-0 set deficit. The Big Red pulled away with a 27-25 set win, despite Syracuse's 12 kills.Â
The third set started off steady, but a service ace by Tehya Maeva gave the Orange the boost they needed. Syracuse shifted the energy in the match, as the Orange attacked with 14 kills across the board and four blocks at the net. Rana Yamada finished with eight digs in the set as the Orange won 25-15 to force a fourth set.Â
Syracuse kept up the momentum into the fourth set, ultimately keeping Cornell to only 17 points. The Orange racked up a .517 shooting percentage with 16 kills, six of which were scored by Skylar George. The Orange dominated with an 82-attack percentage. Tehya Maeve and Veronica Sierzant shined as they accounted for 13 of the 15 assists in the set. Syracuse won the set 25-17.
The Orange challenged Cornell to a fifth set, climbing up from a 2-0 deficit. 'Cuse racked up 11 kills, with Skylar George leading the team once again, going 4-for-4. Six different Orange players recorded a kill in the final set, as Syracuse rounded out Cornell in an electric reverse sweep, with a final set score of 15-11.
 Syracuse extends its win streak to six matches to open the season and 19 straight nonconference wins, dating back to the 2023 season.Â
