Spallina, McCool Named Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Syracuse University men's lacrosse swept the ACC Players of the Week as Joey Spallina was named Offensive Player of the Week while classmate Jimmy McCool was named Defensive Player of the Week. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced its second weekly honors of the season Tuesday afternoon.
Spallina led all scorers on Saturday with nine points on four goals and five assists, canning four of his five shots on goal, leading the No. 2 Orange to a 20-2 win over Saint Joseph's at the JMA Wireless Dome. The senior grabbed one ground ball along the way in the nonconference win.
McCool likewise was solid, making a 10 saves in his 45 minutes of work against the Hawks, limiting Saint Joseph's to just two goals. The Boston, Massachusetts native improved to 2-0 on the young season backed by an 83.3 save percentage against a team that averaged nearly a dozen goals per game last season.
