
Tennis Season Ends With Loss to #63 Wake Forest

CARY, N.C. – The Syracuse University women's tennis team was unable to overcome a hot start from #63 Wake Forest, falling 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the Cary Tennis Park. The loss eliminated Syracuse from the ACC Women's Tennis Championship and ended the season.
The Orange faced an early deficit as the Demon Deacons came out swinging in doubles play. Wake Forest struck first as Krystal Blanch and Aubrey Nisbet claimed a 6-3 victory over Leena Bennetto and Constance Levivier at No. 3 doubles. Evie Oxford and Sankavi Gownder then secured the doubles point, winning 6-4 against Serafima Shastova and Monika Wojcik. The No. 1 doubles match which consisted of No. 66 Nevena Carton and Kady Tannenbaum squaring off with Anastasia Sysoeva and Nelly Knezkova went unfinished with the score deadlocked at 5-5.
In singles play, Shastova wasted no time leveling the contest, picking up the first singles point as Blanch retired in the second set. Gownder restored the lead for Wake Forest after knocking off Bennetto 6-3, 6-2. No. 1-4 Carton then claimed a third point after defeating Sysoeva 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Tannenbaum secured the winning point with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Emma Scaldalai. Knezkova was up a set in her match against Oxford, but the match went unfinished.
