Syracuse Will Face New Haven In 2026-27 Opener

Syracuse and first-year coach Gerry McNamara will open the 2026-27 season against New Haven on Monday, Nov. 2, in the JMA Wireless Dome.
The Syracuse-New Haven Series
     Former Syracuse standout Gerry McNamara enters his initial year at the helm of his alma mater. McNamara spent the last two seasons in charge at Siena, where he led the Saints to the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
     The Orange have two returning regulars, sophomores Kiyan Anthony (8.0 ppg., 1.4 rpg.) and Sadiq White Jr. (6.1 ppg., 3.3 rpg.). A group of six incoming transfers includes Temple guard Aiden Tobiason (15.3 ppg., 3.7 rpg.), a junior, and guard Gavin Doty (18.0 ppg., 6.9 rpg.), a junior and 2025-26 MAAC First Team honoree at Siena.
New Haven
     In the program's first season of competing at the NCAA Division I level, New Haven was 14-17 overall and 9-9 in the Northeast Conference. The Chargers won four of their last six contests to finish the campaign. Coach Ted Hotaling has compiled a 232-201 record in 15 seasons in charge. He guided New Haven into the NCAA Division II Tournament five times during his tenure.
     Graduate guard Kheni Briggs (6.9 ppg.) and sophomore forward Teshaun Steele (3.9 ppg., 3.2 rpg.) are among the Chargers' top returning players.
