Orange Check in at #9 to Open Season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – With the 2026 season on the horizon, Syracuse University field hockey was ranked ninth in the Preseason Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its first poll of the year Tuesday morning.
Syracuse picked up 112 points to land in the number nine spot, two points ahead of Miami University (Ohio). Defending national champion Northwestern was first with 220 points and 11 first-place votes. North Carolina was second with 203 points with Princeton close behind at number three with 198 points. Harvard ranked fourth with 180 points with Virginia rounding out the top five with 156 points.
Including Syracuse at No. 9, six ACC programs were ranked in the top 20 of the Preseason Poll as the Orange are joined by No. 2 North Carolina, No. 5 Virginia, No. 6 Duke, No. 7 Wake Forest, and No. 18 Louisville.
Beyond its ranked ACC slate, Syracuse will also face No. 4 Harvard and No. 17 Rutgers in nonconference play.
No. 9 Syracuse officially opens the 2026 campaign this weekend with a New England road trip. The Orange lead off on Friday with a 3 p.m. showdown at NCAA Tournament qualifier Fairfield in Fairfield, Connecticut. On Sunday, Syracuse takes on Northeastern in Boston with first push slated for noon.
