Coach Boeheim Postgame Quotes
#10 Syracuse vs. Colgate
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, NY
November 27, 2001
Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim’s opening remarks following the game:
“I think tonight we were a little sluggish coming off the tournament like we had last week. Colgate got off to a nice start. They made us really dig down and work. I thought defensively we did a great job of pressuring them.”
“I thought both Craig and Jeremy did a tremendous job inside. We got the ball in there a little bit better.”
“Kueth carried us in the first half. I thought he was a big factor in the first half.”
“In the second half, Preston got a couple of looks. Jeremy and Craig played very well and that’s a good sign.”
“Offensively, without DeShaun, we’re not the same kind of offensive team.”
“Josh came in and did a nice job - made a couple of big jump shots when it was a six or eight-point game and played very well. So, that’s a good sign. He’s got to take this opportunity to really get out there and play and use these games as experience for the rest of the year.”
“It was a good win. I think Colgate is pretty good. I like their team. I think they’re better than they’ve been. They don’t see shot blockers like Jeremy and Craig and that was really probably the difference.”
Boeheim on James Thues: “I thought tonight he got a little anxious. He turned it over a little bit more than he has. He tried to make some things happen. He’s got to find that mid-range jump shot. His defense is good. He’s pushing the ball up well. I think he’s going to get better. This is a good opportunity for him to play big minutes and hopefully progress.”
Boeheim on Josh Pace:
“I thought he played well. He had a couple of blocked shots when the ball was inbounded. He knows how to play. He gets in the right positions. I think he’s going to be a good player. These games are going to help him.”
Boeheim on Syracuse’s 12-2 run in the first half:
“We pressed a little bit and they missed a couple of transition layups. I think we got a block. I think we got a steal. Our pressure wasn’t as good as it was, obviously, in New York, but it was good. We’re a chemistry team. Defensively, I thought we did a pretty good job. Offensively, we were missing the first or second option of our offense.”
