Player Postgame Quotes
Syracuse 91, Hofstra 65
Tuesday, December 4, 2001
Carrier Dome-Syracuse, NY
Syracuse senior forward Preston Shumpert
On pulling away after Hofstra came within seven points after the half:
“We started correcting our mistakes. In the first half we were just going through the motions and we were able to get away with it.”
On playing with Bernie Fine as the coach:
“If anyone knows Coach Boeheim’s style, it’s going to be Bernie (Fine).”
“Coach (Mike) Hopkins and (Troy) Weaver know what to expect out of us. We know that we can’t come out with half the effort just because Coach Boeheim’s gone. We have to give the same effort and intensity.”
Syracuse senior point guard DeShaun Williams
On the difference between the first and second half:
“I think we weren’t aggressive on defense and didn’t play hard (in the first half).”
“In the second half, Bernie (Fine) woke us up a little bit. We went out there and played hard.”
On the game:
“We could have played better, 22 turnovers is horrible. We can play better.”
Junior forward Kueth Duany
On the second-half play of SU:
“Everybody stepped up for us. We have a veteran team. As much as the young guys contribute, they’re still led by us (the upperclassmen).”
On the SU freshmen:
“They’re fast learners. They have developed pretty fast. When they get it going, it’s going to be tough to stop them.”
