SPECIAL CAMPAIGNS

THE CAMPAIGN FOR CREW
The Syracuse mens crew team is one of the longest reigning sports in the history of the University. The first team took to the water in 1899. Over the past 100 years, the Orange have made their home on Onondaga Lake and have competed around the United States and in the Royal Henley Regatta in England. The tradition of Syracuse crew is outstanding and gives great pride to all those who participate. In an effort to continue the strong tradition of Syracuse Crew, The Campaign for Crew has been established to endow scholarship funds for the mens crew program. It is essential to build the endowment base to ensure the future of the program.
Many people have made commitments to the Campaign thus far. Jim Breuer '72 and his wife Cathy have made a leadership gift of $100,000 to establish The Breuer Family Endowed Crew Scholarship.
In addition, the Department of Athletics have also demonstrated a level of commitment to the SU mens crew team. For every dollar donated to a crew endowed scholarship, one dollar will be matched for new equipment up to $300,000.
The Campaign for Crew is vital to the growth and future of the SU crew program. Information on the campaign will be mailed to former letterwinners and friends in mid-April. If anyone has questions, or would like to receive information, please call Lisa Sinopoli in the Orange Pack office at 315-443-2149.

THE ROY SIMMONS, JR. ENDOWED LACROSSE SCHOLARSHIP
The Roy Simmons, Jr. Endowed Lacrosse Scholarship which was initiated a year ago, has raised almost $200,000. The effect that Slugger had on the Syracuse Lacrosse program is phenomenal. During his 28 years as head coach, his teams won 6 National Championships and appeared in 16 consecutive Final Fours. The 1990 Syracuse team is universally acclaimed as "the greatest college lacrosse team of all time."
All of us who had the great honor to be associated with such a remarkable coach, teacher and friend, are now in a position to help perpetuate the legacy of excellence that Roy D. Simmons, Jr. helped create at Syracuse. The Roy D. Simmons, Jr. Endowed Lacrosse Scholarship Fund insures the continued growth of our sport and honors the most storied family in Syracuse Lacrosse history. This endowment fund will live in perpetuity and help provide the essential scholarship support needed to recruit and retain the most talented student-athletes.
We are currently in an aggressive fundraising campaign to support this scholarship. We are confident that with a little help, we will far surpass the goal of $300,000 and establish an endowment similar to the Roy Simmons, Sr. Scholarship which is now over $500,000. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Lisa Sinopoli in the Orange Pack office at 315-443-2149.

THE LOCKER ROOM RENOVATION PROJECT
View Pictures of the Locker Room & Training Facility
We have embarked on an ambitious campaign to renovate and enlarge the locker room facilities and the Training Room in Manley Field House. Phase 1 of the project will update the locker rooms for Football and Mens Basketball. In 2002, Phase 2 will take place and that will renovate locker rooms for Mens Lacrosse and Mens Soccer.
In the new Football Locker Room there will be a "football only" training room facility named in honor of Don Lowe, who was the Coordinator of Sports Medicine at Syracuse University for 25 years.
The total cost of these renovations will be close to $2 million. Currently, we have over $600,000 pledged. As with most capital campaigns, we need the money in hand to proceed with renovations. If anyone has an interest in learning more about this project or would like to help with funding, please call Joe Manhertz in the Orange Pack office at 315-443-5049.
