Coming off three consecutive undefeated cup seasons where the Orange were 21-1 in dual races, Reischman returns for his seventh year at the helm of SU rowing. During his tenure at SU, Reischman has helped to turn the program around. There has been steady improvement each year, culminating with the program’s finest three- season stretch from 2005 to 2008. The end of the 2008 dual-race season saw the varsity eight complete its third consecutive unbeaten campaign. Reischman led the varsity eight to Ten Eyck Cup, Packard Cup, Goes Trophy, Conlan Cup and Stag Trophy victories. SU made history by winning the Goes Trophy for the third consecutive season, a feat that has never been accomplished by the Orange in the 54-year history of the Goes Trophy. SU finished 10th at Eastern Sprints and 13th at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Regatta. Syracuse finished the 2008 season ranked 13th nationally in the USRowing coaches poll.
"Dave is the real deal," said Tom Darling ‘81, a Syracuse Alumni Rowing Association representative and former Olympic oarsman who was on the search committee that selected Reischman in 2002. "He has all the attributes I would associate with a great coach — commitment, motivation, technical know-how and physiological expertise."
REISCHMAN AT SYRACUSE
Reischman led the 2007 Orange to its second consecutive undefeated cup season, including Ten Eyck Cup, Packard Cup, Conlan Cup and Goes Trophy victories. The varsity eight finished sixth at Eastern Sprints and 17th at the IRA Regetta. Reischman’s rowers also made an appearance at the Henley Royal Regatta in Henley, England, where they advanced to the quarterfinals of the Ladies’ Challenge Plate.
In 2006 SU finished eighth at the IRA Championship and completed an undefeated cup season. The Orange beat Cornell and Navy for the first time since 1999 to bring home the Goes Trophy and defeated Dartmouth to capture the Packard Cup for the first time since 1990. SU ended the season ranked eighth in the USRowing poll.
Reischman helped lead the team to a 14th-place finish at the IRA in 2005. The previous season the team brought home its first-ever Clayton Chapman Trophy, an award presented annually to the program that has the most improvement in the Ten Eyck scoring from the previous year.
BEFORE THE ORANGE
Reischman began coaching at Oregon State in September of 1994. He was responsible for organizing all aspects of the men’s rowing program. In his last season, Oregon State enjoyed a top-10 finish in the final team standings of the IRA Regatta. His varsity eight finished fourth overall at the prestigious national championship.
From 1989 to 1994, Reischman served as director of rowing at Gonzaga University.
Reischman started his coaching career as an intern at Harvard University during the 1987-88 school year, working with coach Harry Parker and observing all aspects of the program, including season-long development of training programs to the selection of athletes. The next year, Reischman became the freshmen coach at Florida Institute of Technology, a position he held for one season.
INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS
A three-time United States National Team coach, Reischman served his most recent stint during the summer of 2001. He assisted coach Mike Teti with the preparation of the 2001 United States National Team. His primary responsibility was coaching the four with coxswain at the World Championship in Lucerne, Switzerland. During the summer of 1994, Reischman helped coach Igor Grinko with the preparation of the U.S. Sculling Team for the 1994 World Championship. In 1993, coached the Men’s Single Sculler and also assisted Grinko with the selection camp for the men’s quad.
In May of 1991, Reischman was selected as head coach of the Olympic Festival Development Camp which was held at the Cincinnati Rowing Center. He helped select and prepare the men’s four with coxswain and quad for the Olympic Sports Festival in Los Angeles.
Reischman attended high school in Arlington, Washington. In 1987, he received his bachelor of science degree in computer science from Gonzaga University, where he graduated summa cum laude.
Freshman Coach/recruting coordinator Dave Weiss

Dave Weiss is the full-time assistant coach responsible for coaching the freshmen, as well as serving as the Orange’s recruiting coordinator.
Weiss came to Syracuse after coaching the freshmen boats at George Washington from 2005-07.
The 2008 freshman boat, finished the season with a perfect 10-0 record in the dual race season. The freshman eight finished sixth in the Grand Final at Eastern Sprints and 10th at the IRA Regatta.
A 2001 graduate of Georgetown University, Weiss was team captain and MVP of the Hoyas in 2000-01. As a member of the Hoyas’ varsity eight Weiss won gold medals at the 2001 ECAC Championships, and at the 1998 Champion International Regatta. Rowing in the men’s four, Weiss’ shell advanced to the second round of competition in the Visitor’s Cup at the 2003 Henley Royal Regatta in England.
Graduate Assistant Joseph DeLeo
Volunteer Assistant: Tyler Page
A 2006 Syracuse University graduate, Tyler Page joined the Orange staff in the fall of 2008 as a volunteer assistant.Page is currently in his third year of studies towards a degree of Doctorate of Chiropractic, at New York Chiropractic College which is in Seneca Falls, N.Y.
The Grimsby, Ontario native rowed for all four years while at Syracuse (2003-06). Page spent time in the varsity 8 and junior varsity 8 during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He was a co-captain during his senior year. Page spent most of his freshman season as the stroke of the freshman eight.
A four-year member of the George Washington rowing team, Joseph DeLeo joined the Syracuse staff in the summer of 2008 as a graduate assistant.Prior to DeLeo’s arrival at Syracuse, he served as an intern at the World Championship Sports Network. While there he worked on research and development website development and secured banner and logo advertisements on partner, community and blog sites. DeLeo also provided sales leads and established grassroots efforts with senior management.
While at George Washington DeLeo was a two-year member and one-year co-captain of the GW Student-Athlete Mentor Program, where he provided guidance to incoming freshmen student-athletes and assisted them with acclimating to collegiate lifestyle. DeLeo was also a member of the Dean’s List during his last three years at GW.
