Assistant Coach Darren Bennett

Third Season at SU
Darren Bennett joined the Orangewomen coaching staff in June of 2000 after serving as an assistant coach at Temple for the previous two seasons. In addition to being SU's recruiting coordinator, Bennett coaches the post players. He is also involved in player evaluation, opponent scouting and gameplan preparation. Bennett serves as an assistant director of the SU Girls Basketball Camp.
Last season, Bennett oversaw the Orangewomen scheduling. He put together a schedule that was ranked 25th-toughest in the nation according the WBCA/Summerville RPI. Even with the challenging opponents, Bennett helped guide the Orangewomen to an 18-13 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Bennett was also part of the coaching staff that led the BIG EAST All-Stars to a perfect 6-0 record on its exhibition tour of Germany during the summer of 2001.
At Temple, Bennett was responsible for recruiting, scouting opponents, coaching the perimeter players and coordinating defensive game plans. In addition, he coordinated team travel and scheduling of non-conference opponents. Bennett also implemented pre- and post-season conditioning.
In 1997-98 Bennett was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Springfield College. He was responsible for recruiting, scouting and coaching the Pride's backcourt.
Bennett also has experince as a health teacher at Kiley Middle School in Springfield. Bennett earned his bachelor's degree in health and fitness from Springfield in 1995, and his Master's degree in health education in 1997. Bennett was a member of Springfield's football squad for four years, and the basketball team for three years.
