Syracuse Player Quotes
Upstate NY AAU at Syracuse (exhibition)
Nov. 19, 2002
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Sophomore Guard Josh Pace
On his comfort level:
"I'm comfortable right now. I just go out there and try to get the team involved."
On what the team has to do to get ready for the Valparaiso game:
"We've got four straight practices to get ready for Valparaiso. We're just going to come out hard and focus for four good days and get ready for Valparaiso. We heard they're a good shooting team so we have to practice our defense. They've been in the tournament in recent years, so we are getting ready to play a real good team."
Freshman Forward Carmelo Anthony
On the beginning of the game:
"We came out and didn't really play hard, but we new we could improve some things. "
On the upcoming season:
"We're really looking forward to this season and looking forward to playing Valpo on Sunday. "
On the upcoming Valparaiso game:
"I don't know anything about (Valparaiso)--all I know is that I've seen them in the tournament a couple of times. We have a couple more practices to go through and work hard. I think we'll be ready."
On the defense:
"We have to rebound to help our defense. We're going to score and shoot the ball--we just need to work on our defense right now."
Freshman Guard Gerry McNamara
"On what the team needs to do to improve:
As far as the offense goes, we have to find each other a little more. We'll be alright though. I think it is going to take some time, especially with a lot of young guys."
On the substitution pattern: "It's good; it gives a lot of guys a chance to play. It gives a lot of guys a rest and we all had fresh legs."
On playing against some former Syracuse players: "It's fun. We play a lot of pick up games with some of those guys, so it's good to go against them in a real game."
Sophomore Forward Hakim Warrick:
On playing against former Orangemen:
"We knew that they were going to come out here and try to win. We've played against most of them in pick-up ball in the summertime, so they knew how we play and we knew some of the things they do. It was a fun game. Lawrence Moten being the all-time leading scorer and Allen Griffin being a tremendous leader--it's great to play against guys like that."
