Orangewomen Stay Unbeaten; Win First Orange Challenge Cup Since 1984
The seventh-ranked Orangewomen crossed the finish line more than eight seconds ahead of the No. 20 University of Pennsylvania (6:34.9) boat. Northeastern placed third with a time of 6:35.9. The Orangewomen's varsity eight boat has won all five of its races defeating ten schools along the way.
Senior captain Katie Modolo (St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada) rowed inthe seventh seat of the varsity eight. Juniors Alicea Kochis (Naugatuck, CT) and Rachael Kirchoff (Juneau, AK) rowed in seats six and five, respectively.
The Orangewomen also won the junior varsity eight race with a time of 6:46.1. Erin Gallagher (Upper Darby, PA) served as the coxswain, while Shannon Mercurio (Saranac Lake, NY) was the stroke and Jordan Brophy-Hilton (Los Gatos, CA) was the bow.
SU won the varsity four-B race. Renee Fagot (Los Gatos, CA) was in the second seat of the boat that finishedin 7:42.1. In the varsity four-A race Syracuse finished second, behind Northeastern. In the first novice eight race SU came in third. Northeastern won the novice race and Penn came in second.
The Orangewomen's next race is April 21 against Radcliffe and Dartmouth in Hanover, NH.
