Syracuse Player Quotes
Boston College at Syracuse
Jan. 11, 2003
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Sophomore forward Hakim Warrick
On his personal gameplan:
“I just wanted to go out there and use my quickness without trying to rely on my strength. The other guys are much stronger, so I just have to keep on using my quickness as an advantage.”
On what led to his success:
“I came out a lot more aggressive. I missed a couple shots early, but I just kept on shooting and crashing the boards to try and get rebounds.”
On the debut of the new video board in the Carrier Dome:
“I think it’s great. It really helps and gets the fans into it more.”
Sophomore guard Josh Pace
On the two wins to start conference play:
“We are 2-0 in the BIG EAST right now when we easily could be 0-2. That’s a real confidence booster.”
On his role off the bench:
“I just try to come in and do a little bit of everything – try to score a little bit, rebound and play defense.”
Freshman forward Carmelo Anthony
On Boston College’s second-half comeback:
“That comes with being a good team. You are going to have your ups and downs in the games. We came out great, then we had a bad spurt. Then we picked it up at the end.”
On the importance of rebounding:
“Coach Boeheim told me that we play better when Hakim and I rebound and get eight or more rebounds apiece. That showed tonight.”
On SU’s two BIG EAST wins:
“It’s a confidence booster to know that we can beat these teams.”
Freshman Gerry McNamara
On BC’s second-half run:
“We went cold at a certain point in the second half. I think our intensity picked up and the crowd got into it a little more, especially when we got on the boards. When we get rebounds, we get out and run. That’s when we’re at our best.”
On his mindset when BC took the lead:
“I don’t think you can play nervous. You can’t think about winning or losing. You just have to go out and play as hard as you can. Hopefully, the pieces will fall into place.”
On the new video boards:
“It’s kind of hard not to (watch it). That’s pretty neat how they put that up. At one point, I think everyone was kind of looking over there. You have to stay away from that.”
