Syracuse Player Quotes
Seton Hall at Syracuse
Jan. 22, 2003
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Freshman guard Billy Edelin
On playing 28 minutes:
“I think Coach realizes that when I’m in the game I can help other players. I’m not a selfish player, so he doesn’t have to worry about me coming in and forcing up shots. I just tried to get other guys the ball and I think I helped out tonight. My teammates definitely supported me, too. They were great.”
On the upcoming game with Miami:
“I think the more games you get the more comfortable you feel. Obviously they’re playing well, but I think our zone will be able to slow them down. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
On playing in the backcourt with Gerry McNamara:
“Gerry always comes up to me saying ‘We have four years of this.’ I think he likes it. Not that he can’t play the point, but everyone knows he can stroke the basketball. I can find him and also take some pressure off Carmelo.”
Sophomore Hakim Warrick
On Gerry McNamara’s shooting:
“I try to go to the offensive glass, but I feel like it’s going in every time. It really surprises me when he misses.”
On Billy Edelin’s play:
“He really did a good job coming in tonight. To get double-figure points in his second game is great. I’m happy for him.”
Freshman Gerry McNamara
On playing with Billy Edelin:
“I love playing with Bill. Just to see him out there and playing like he can is good to see. I think everyone’s rooting for him -- the fans, us, the coaches. It’s great that he has an opportunity to go out and really show what he can do.”
On teams playing tougher defense against him:
“You’re going to get your shots. You just have to be patient. I used to get frustrated with it in high school, but I’m becoming used to it. You just have to wait your turn and I eventually got some opportunities tonight.”
