Syracuse Player Quotes
St. John's at Syracuse
Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Freshman forward Carmelo Anthony
On St. Johns’ physical defense:
“This was probably the most physical game we’ve played in the BIG EAST so far. We’ve seen it against Pittsburgh and Georgetown, but not like tonight. You just try to keep taking it at them and hopefully you’ll draw some fouls.”
On SU’s heart:
“Everyone on this team has heart. We’ve been down in many BIG EAST games so far this year, but we’ve always found a way to come back and win. When we’re down we try to just keep playing and keep fighting.”
Senior guard Kueth Duany
On St. John’s:
“They’re a tough, scrappy team. They play very well on the road. They forced a lot a turnovers, but we were still in the game and we kept fighting and came out with the win.”
On SU’s upcoming game with Michigan State:
“We’re looking forward to going up there and playing against a Big 10 team. It’s a different style of basketball and it’s a great place to play. It’s going to be an NCAA tournament-type environment. Playing teams from different conferences, you don’t know each other very well, so it’s going to be a good test for us.”
On playing at home:
“The fans are great and they really support us. You can’t let a team come into your home court and win. One of our goals this year was to win at the Dome and go on the road and steal as many wins as we can.”
Freshman guard Gerry McNamara
On Kueth Duany’s play:
“We’ve got a lot of guys that can step up and play well. Kueth is the leader and he’s there every night. We're fortunate that we have guys like Kueth to go to.”
On playing at Michigan State:
“They’re having a tough year, but they’re still one of the best teams in the country in my mind. They have a great team and a great coach and going there is one of the toughest places to play in the country. We’re going to have our hands full.”
