Coach Desko Quotes vs. Fairfield
"I think anytime we play anyone in the Carrier Dome we get off to a good start and get them thinking about the Dome a little bit. It helps us in our game plan. I thought we executed pretty well, shot well against a good goaltender. It's nice to get things back on track after a loss."
Desko on rebounding after the Virginia loss:
"We expected them to win some faceoffs and slow it down and by getting the early lead it was difficult for them to do that. We were able to get a lot of players in the game tonight. Third midfield played quite a bit. We've been trying to get them in and they haven't had as much playing time as we would like them to. So it's good to get these guys in, and we got a couple freshman in that haven't played before. Nick Donatelli has worked very hard and is right behind Jay Pfeifer and got some good minutes tonight."
"We really, after a loss especially, want to get back out there and play as quickly as we can. We had a lot of time off playing last Saturday to Monday night, so it's good that the guys responded, especially with spring break going on. They've been on me a little bit. They normally go to Florida this time of year, and a couple of guys were wearing Hawaiian shirts at practice yesterday. They were letting me know that they are missing their spring break. But with this win, and if we can get the Jays on Saturday, it will all be worth it."
Desko on looking forward to Saturday's game against Johns Hopkins:
"We have spent some time on our Hopkins' scouting report. Tomorrow, being a Monday night game tonight, we start practice tomorrow on a Tuesday for Hopkins. We really have to hit the ground running. We came out healthy tonight, which will help. We're off for spring break so we have a lot of time during the day for film. We'll have a 3:30 practice tomorrow and we are going to get ready for the Jays on Saturday."
Desko on this year's game plan against Hopkins:
"I thought last year we had a real good game plan going in. We were up 8-4 with about eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter and they just exploded and came back to win the game. They played very well. So we've got to have a game plan going in, we have to stick with it, and we've got to play very good team defense. Their offense is putting up some points and that's the one thing we still have to keep harping on."
Desko on Michael Springer's play so far this season:
"I think he's playing with a lot of confidence and carrying the ball extremely well. I think Mike has relied a little bit on the other guys dodging, putting himself in the position to shoot the ball, and this year he's really made up his mind he's going to carry it and beat his man one-on-one. That's just a whole new dimension to Mike."
Desko on the way Springer and Powell complement one another on attack:
"Mike Springer is doing a better job carrying the ball and being a dodger and taking a lot of the pressure off of Mike Powell. Now that we've got two guys that can go to the goal again from behind the cage, it puts a lot of pressure on opposing teams' defenses. The way both Mikes can shoot the ball, especially Mike Springer from the outside, that really helps stretch the defense out a little."
