MLAX Quotes vs. Brown
Coach Desko on the outcome of the game:
"Brown did a nice job of trying to control the tempo and keep the tempo at a slower pace, especially in the first half. Faceoffs were about even. They were very, very patient offensively. We put some points up on the board. There were a couple turnovers in the first half that we would like to have back to possess the ball a little bit more on our offensive end. We talked to the guys at halftime and we have seen, when we played against Army, a similar type game. Hobart was a similar game, and Brown was a similar game to those. It helps them every time we play one of these teams, we get a little better at adjusting and playing the game the way we have to play in these situations. I thought we had a good second half, the guys understood what was going on, had a couple man-ups, took advantage of those, and that's why the score was the way it was."
Coach Desko on the Orangemen's defense:
"The defense did a very nice job, especially in the second half. We understood their characteristics a little bit better. We understood after the first half that they like to put the ball inside to number 10 on their man-ups, and he shoots it or skips a pass down to the corners on their 3-3 offense. We were a bit more patient in clearing the ball. I thought our attack did an amazingly tremendous job riding the ball again today. Those guys are really getting after it, and the goalie makes the save or the defense comes up with the loose ball and helps pick up our tempo."
Coach Desko on a particular sequence of events in the second half where his defense held its ground despite furious pressure from Brown:
"I was very happy with it, because it showed the energy and the spark of the defense. All of those looked like they had opportunities to score on each one of them. You kind of saw it coming, bit your lip, thought the ball would go in. We made the save, then we knocked it down again and again. It seemed like there were four or five opportunities for them where our defense stopped them, and stopping them again in those man-down situations was exciting for the defense."
Junior Michael Powell on what he thinks it's like for Brown's goalie, Mike Levin, to play Syracuse:
"I talk to him a little bit. I ask him about it, to be honest with you. He's a great goalie. I thought he played a great game, had a lot of good saves. It's got to be tough to be an opposing team, coming into the Carrier Dome where everyone is against you and with people like Mike Springer and Liam Banks hacking on your arm. I wouldn't want to deal with those guys."
Michael Powell on his new orange shoes:
"I had to change it up. My game hasn't been too flashy, so I figured I'd start with my shoes."
Michael Springer on playing lacrosse during war times:
"Obviously I feel for all the families of people that are there. I always watch the news. The TV is always on CNN. When we listened to the Star Spangled Banner today, which was sung incredibly today - we were all commenting on it - we thought she was awesome. But you think about it then and say a prayer for all the families and the men and women out there."
SU's attackmen when asked to give their Final Four advice to the SU men's basketball team (since the SU lacrosse program has appeared in 20 consecutive final fours):
Liam Banks:
"Give the ball to Carmelo."
Mike Springer:
"Ditto."
Michael Powell:
"Give the ball to McNamara."
