Walter Reyes set career highs with 241 yards, 31 carries and four rushing touchdowns. His 241 yards are the second-most ever at SU. Joe Morris holds the record with 252 yards versus Kansas in 1979. Reyes' 241 yards set a Carrier Dome record for rushing yards in a game. Dee Brown's 239 yard game versus Rutgers was the previous mark. It was the first time an SU player rushed for four scores in one game since current SU running backs coach David Walker had four versus Pittsburgh in 1991.
Reye's 25-yard touchdown run in the first quarter was his eighth consecutive game with a rushing touchdown. His fourth touchdown moved him past Joe Morris for fifth place on the SU all-time rushing touchdown list with 26. Reyes also passed Jim Brown for sixth place on the total touchdown list with 26.
Reyes has now had five games with at least three rushing touchdowns. He is tied with Floyd Little for the most in school history.
Reyes crossed the 100-yard mark for the game with a 32-yard run in the third quarter. It was Reyes' eighth career 100-yard game, tying him with Bill Hurley for seventh on the SU all-time list. It was the first 200-yard game by an SU running back since Dee Brown versus Rutgers in 2000.
Reyes' 27-yard reception in the third quarter was the longest of his career.
Darryl Kennedy'sfumble recovery on the first punt of the game was the first of his career. Senior long snapper Dave DeAmato forced the fumble, the first of his career.
Thomas Whitfield started at cornerback for the Orangemen, the first start of his career. Whitfield made six tackles in the first half, breaking his career high of two. He finished with eight tackles.
Johnnie Morant's first reception in the first quarter was the 20th consecutive game that he has caught a pass.
R.J. Anderson's18-yard run in the first quarter was his longest of the season.
Rashard Williams converted a third down with a 17-yard reception on his first play of the season. It was his first career catch. Williams finished the game with two catches.
Collin Barber's third extra point moved him into seventh place on the SU all-time PAT list. Barber now has 65 made PATs. Barber's 26-yard field goal with 12:30 left in the fourth quarter was the 21st of his career, tying him with George Jakowenko for seventh all-time at SU.
Steve Gregory's 15-yard interception return was the longest of his career, breaking his old mark of two set last season versus Virginia Tech. It was Gregory's third career interception.
UCF's blocked punt in the first quarter was the first time a Syracuse punt had been blocked since the Temple game in 2000.
Kelvin Smith's interception in the second quarter was the first of his career.
Troy Swittenburg's fourth-quarter interception was the first of his career.
Redshirt freshmen Perry Patterson and Tim Washington each made their collegiate debuts in the fourth quarter. Washington rushed two times for three yards.
The Syracuse defense intercepted UCF quarterback Ryan Schneider three times. It was the first time SU forced three interceptions since the 2002 Virginia Tech game. The Orange forced five turnovers overall that led to 14 points. It was the most takeaways for SU since they had five versus the Hokies.
