Syracuse Player Quotes
January 10, 2004
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Sophomore guard Gerry McNamera
On ball distribution:
"If Hakim (Warrick)'s getting going, he's getting the ball every time. Josh (Pace) got going in the Michigan State game so he's getting the ball. That's how it is. If a guy's feeling it, keep going to him until he stops."
On his shooting percentage:
"I should be around 50 percent. I don't shoot that. What are you gonna do? A lot of the shots I take are tough and there's not much you can do about it. As long as I'm hitting 90 to 91 percent from the foul line then I know I'm not doing anything wrong."
On the crowd chanting his name:
"It's a great feeling having people chant your name, it humbles you and puts things in perspective for you. Not many people in their lifetime get that chance so to have them do that for me meant a lot."
Junior forward Hakim Warrick
On his performance:
"I need to be more aggressive, especially now. I think my team needs me to be aggressive. I need to go out there and make plays for them"
On the first half:
"We definitely wanted to clamp down and make it hard for them. Everyone was just on a roll and making tough shots and that got our confidence up."
On how the team responded when the game got close:
"It shows that we're just going to fight hard the whole game. It's good to finally get out there and get a big lead. To have them get it back a little bit and to get it back says a lot about the team's toughness."
On the upcoming game against Missouri:
"They're just as good a school as any team we face. They work hard out there and bang, and they have a lot of good one-on-one players, so it's going to be a tough game."
Junior Josh Pace:
On the upcoming road trip:
“I think as a team we're ready to hit the road. We've been playing in the Dome for the last 10 or11 games, but I think we're ready to get on the road. As far as experience goes, that comes from playing on the road. I think we'll be ready.
On his role as a captain in encouraging the freshmen:
"I tell them just to stay focused because you never know when you're going to get your chance, and when you get your chance, you have to try to contribute anyway you can. It's hard not knowing how much or when you're going to play, but you just have to be focused."
On Boston College's comeback in the middle of the game:
"I think we need to be more consistent. If we get team’s down like that, we need to go ahead and put them away. It's also good to be able to have a team come back and be able to put them away again at the end. I think that speaks something of our team that we're able to withhold that type of run."
