SU Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Keith Cieplicki
“Defensively, we’re playing very well. Cornell is a young team, but I thought we created some nice tempo. We shot the ball great from the perimeter, but didn’t shoot it great inside. We got a lot of good looks. I thought it was a good solid game for us.”
On SU’s 10-0 run to start the game:
“I liked our energy. We talked about really making Cornell uncomfortable. I think it showed. For most of the game, they had to make a lot of tough plays and a lot of decisions. I’m happy with the understanding of our team and how we’re executing the defense. It was good to get off to a good start. It was nice to have a little cushion today and have everybody contribute and play a little bit.”
On Jessica Richter and Rochelle Coleman’s efforts:
“I think they’re really finding each other, as are their teammates. So much of this game is just knocking down shots. They’re both shooting the ball well, but the thing is – Jess is rebounding the ball, Ro is handling the ball – they’re doing more than just shooting the ball. They’re making their shots because they’re taking their shots, and that’s what we’ve talked about. Obviously, seven threes between them today – that’s the ball game.”
On his assessment through the first 11 games:
“Record-wise, we’re off to our best non-conference start in 15 years so I’m thrilled about that. I think it’s a reflection of this team. I think this team has really come together. Defensively, we’re ready to play (in BIG EAST games), we’ll see offensively. Sixty is the magic number. Sixty is a little bit of a scary number. We’d like the magic number to be 65 or 70, but again, this is just one step at a time. I’m looking forward to it. The non-conference has been great for us, but now it’s time to get down to business.”
On SU’s first BIG EAST game against Pittsburgh:
“Pittsburgh is a much improved team. Their record has been good in non-conference. They’re a much bigger team than they were last year, and they have veteran guards. There’s not going to be one easy one in the league, and we know that. Pittsburgh is a lot like us. They’re trying to claw their way to the middle and upper-half of the league. It’s going to be a great game Sunday.”
Senior guard Rochelle Coleman
On her confidence after back-to-back double-digit scoring games:
“I just try to come out every game and help my teammates with whatever I have to do. I just want to improve from the last game.”
On her three-pointer near the end of the half that sparked an SU run:
“I’m just trying to take shots in the offensive flow when I’m open, and just make sure I hit it. I don’t want to go out and do anything crazy.”
Freshman guard Jessica Richter
On what she brings to the team:
“I just try to have great energy and hustle, and do all the extra little things we need. I take it one possession at a time and do my part for the team.”
