Coach Boeheim Quotes
Syracuse vs. Notre Dame
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, NY
February 16, 2004
On the game:
“We got off to a very poor offensive start. We got some pretty good shots, and we just didn’t convert them. I thought we made a good effort in the second half and we got back into the lead. Then we had three or four possessions where we charged. We got the ball to Hakim, but he couldn’t get it in. He couldn’t finish two or three times and eventually Notre Dame is going to make some shots. Once they got the lead, Quinn made some very difficult shots and that was the ballgame.”
“We just didn’t play well offensively. We’re coming off the best offensive game we’ve had all year and I thought in the first half we got a lot of shots, we got the ball right where we wanted to and when Gerry and Hakim go 3-for-17 we’re going to be in a big hole.”
“I thought we dug back out of it pretty well, but we had three or four possessions where we got the ball in a pretty good position and didn’t finish that was the game. They finally hit some real tough shots, but that’s what happens when you let teams get in that position. We just didn’t play well enough offensively to get control of the game early.”
On Gerry McNamara:
“We had a slow first half, he got a few shots that just didn’t go in the basket and I didn’t think we did a good job of rebounding it. We couldn’t get anything really out of anybody else. Louie came in and gave a little lift in the first half, but we got a lot of good shots. Gerry got a lot of shots in the first half that he can make that didn’t go in the basket.”
On taking the lead in the second half:
“The game was open and we have got to make some shots. We just didn’t play well offensively. We’ve got to play better offensively than we did tonight.”
On play under the basket:
“I thought for the most part we did a good job for a long time. We had a couple good opportunities inside; we just didn’t convert three or four times”
