Syracuse vs. Boston College Post-Game Quotes
Syracuse vs. Boston College
February 28, 2004
Manley Field House, Syracuse, NY
Head Coach Keith Cieplicki
On the pace of the game:
“I was happy. I think that 59 for Boston College is a good number, I liked the tempo today and I felt like it worked for us. This pace allows us a little better defensive play and frustrates teams a little bit. I like the way it works for us now, but we’ll see how it looks on Tuesday.”
On changing defenses:
“We’re obviously trying to do as much as we can, taking advantage of the element of surprise. We can only surprise people so much because we’re not going get out and create a lot of tempo defensively. We’re trying to do some subtle things, and today defensively I liked a lot of the things we did.”
On outrebounding Boston College:
“We felt that just staying at home a little more today on players would help our rebounding chances and allow us to manage them a little more inside. It worked out that way. I thought we went after the ball as hard as we’ve gone after it in a long time. It was nice to see. Defensively we were just really active.”
On team fouls:
“They did a good job of taking it at us. We talked a lot about cushioning and making people shoot jumpers, but they broke us down defensively. I thought we did a pretty decent job, maybe three or four mistakes that we didn’t need, but it was a good adjustment by them really.”
On overall team play:
“I thought team wise, we were good – our team offense, our ball movement, our ability to create for each other. I know there was a lot of Julie today, but I thought it was more team centered.”
Junior Chineze Nwagbo
On winning the rebounding battle:
“We need to attack on the rebounds. We came out today and, I felt, we attacked the boards and that was something that is a game plan for all our games. Whether we can out rebounded a team or not we need to box out.”
On her jump shot:
“I was just shooting because it was in the flow of the game. I try to shoot within the game. I guess it’s me maturing into someone who the team can come to for a shot.”
Senior Julie McBride
On her last game at Manley Field House:
“I really haven’t thought about it. It probably won’t hit me until later on -- in a couple weeks or months. I’m going to miss a lot of things just coming out here and playing out here. I’ve been playing here for four years and I’ve had a lot of support over those four years from my family. Just playing for Syracuse is something that I’ve always wanted. It’s just something I’m going to miss.”
On trying to come back against Boston College:
“We had opportunities. I think that if we had made those shots it would have been a different story. They played well, I don’t want to take anything away from them. If I had made those two lay ups or if we had made a couple shots it would have been a different game at the end.”
On holding Boston College below their scoring average:
“The tempo of the game did that. I don’t think they really want to play that pace. I don’t think they really got any fast breaks on us, maybe one. That’s pretty much what a lot of their game is – transition and pushing the ball. Not having that was probably why they didn’t hit their scoring average, and Amber Jacobs didn’t play, that’s twenty points.”
On team turnovers:
“Turnovers are part of the game, we’ve been turning the ball over a lot lately and part of that is good defense, but a lot of that is just unforced turnovers.”
